About Us

Cradlerock Children's Center (CCC) began as an outreach project of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbia. The congregation's members voted to open the child care center based on their recognition of the intense need for affordable, high-quality child care in Columbia, MD, particularly in the neighborhood of Owen Brown. After extensive research, planning, and renovation, Cradlerock Children's Center opened in August 2005 with the goal of becoming the premier quality child care center in Howard County.

Our Mission

Our mission is to create a stimulating, nurturing, values-rich preschool environment for children of varied backgrounds.  We offer an engaging, play-based program that involves the whole child, encouraging spiritual, social, and intellectual growth, while empowering each child to develop at his/her own rate.  We treat our staff with respect:  recruiting, recognizing and rewarding excellence.  We strive to become a welcoming, transformative educational resource for our families and for those in the surrounding community.

Our Philosophy

Experts tell us that our care for the youngest children will reap the greatest results. Stimulation for infants and toddlers prepares them for language and preschool. Preschool provides a place where the child works in creative and joyful play. With the help of trained and caring teachers bringing into place a rich and balanced curriculum, the child’s spirit blossoms, social skills lead to development of moral values in emerging community, and foundations are laid for intellectual growth. The whole child develops into a caring human being and lifelong learner. At Cradlerock Children's Center, we believe that play is a child's work.  Our curriculum focuses on teaching values and social skills through play, and inspiring confidence and a love of learning in young children during their most formative years.
